Slice of Columbus is Ohio’s Largest Pizza Event!

How does all you can eat pizza sound? Make plans to be at Columbus Commons on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM for Ohio’s largest pizza event!

Once you’re beyond the entrance of Columbus Commons, all pizza samples are unlimited! Plus enjoy live music by The Conspiracy Band and children’s activities like putt putt, face paining, bounce houses, crafts and more!

My kids and I attended this event last year and had a great time, despite the fact that it rained the whole time! We actually made fun memories running from tent to tent to try all of the pizza!

You can get a discount on tickets by purchasing them in advance! Discount Ticket Price is available until Midnight on Tuesday, September 11. Day of Ticket Price begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12 and can still be purchased online.

Patient Champions for 2018 Development Board Events

The Development Board features Patient Champions each year as they hold several events to raise money for research to find cures and treat patients. The following information, provided by the Development Board, is about this year’s Patient Champions, Kaleb and Mia:

Kaleb (7) and Mia (8) both had their first seizure in January of 2013, within just three weeks of each other. Tests determined that Mia and Kaleb both had epilepsy. However, their neurologist in Florida wanted to do further testing since the anti-epileptic drugs were not working.

In August of 2013, the Diaz family had genetic testing done. In November 2013, they received their diagnosis; both Mia and Kaleb had Batten disease.

Batten disease is a progressive neurological disease. Currently, there is no cure. Patients with Batten’s experience cognitive impairment, loss of developmental milestones, epilepsy and sight impairments. Life expectancy for those with Batten disease is 8 to 12 years old. Researchers at Nationwide Children’s are working to slow down the regression of the disease and move closer toward finding a cure.

A few months into treatment at Nationwide Children’s, her family noticed that the seizures were shorter in duration, not as intense and not as frequent.

It’s been a little over three years since Mia’s first infusion and she hasn’t had a seizure in over two years. She is still able to eat by mouth and retains her vision. Mia loves being her friends and going to the playground. She loves Chick Fil A, swimming, riding roller coasters and jet skiing.

With there being limited spots in the trial, Kaleb began treatment 19 months after Mia.

In the words of his mother, Barbara, “He is able to give those amazing cuddles that only he knows how to give. He is taking steps in his gait trainer and able to eat by mouth again. He is happy and getting stronger each day.” Kaleb loves music, being outdoors, swimming, Mickey Mouse and Nutella.

Every other week, Mia and Kaleb are admitted for infusions and stay overnight each time. They also come in for therapy and to see their specialists in neurology, pulmonology, GI and optometry.

“To our family, Nationwide Children’s means hope. It’s a place that has provided us optimism in a time when we thought all hope was gone. Because of Nationwide Children’s, we get to make more memories and we get to enjoy more time with our children. I can honestly say that Mia and Kaleb are still enjoying life and that they wouldn’t be here today without the enzyme replacement therapy – a treatment that wouldn’t be possible without research,” says Barbara, Mia and Kaleb’s mother.

Leeds Farm to host Witches Night Out on October 4, 2018!

Looking for a new adventure for girls’ night out? Then gather up your bewitching friends, hop on your brooms, and fly out to Leeds Farm for a wicked fun evening while supporting a great cause!

Girlfriends-night-out fundraiser to benefit Pink Ribbon Girls!

Leeds Farm is thrilled to announce the fifth annual Leeds Farm Witches Night Out! will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 6 to 8:30 pm. Leeds Farm is located at 8738 Marysville Road, Ostrander OH 43061, just 15 minutes north of the Columbus Zoo.

The event is girls-night-out at Leeds Farm with 100% of ticket sales benefiting Pink Ribbon Girls. Attendees are
encouraged to wear witch costumes, hats or other bewitching attire. The October 4 event will kick off at 6:00 pm and while the kids are away, the witches can play!

All of Leeds Farm’s fun activities including the Pumpkin Jumps, zip lines, pedal carts, rolling tubes, combine slide, mountain slides, hayrides, Paintball on the Porch, and much more are open to enjoy.

Event partner A Catered Event will provide themed food and a special witch’s brew. Local DJ Ryan
Keller, owner of AUDIO-PRO Mobile DJ Entertainment, will provide music.

Other event sponsors include Richwood Bank, Memorial Health, Honda Marysville, Performance Delaware, Westport Homes, Black Wing Shooting Center, Alice’s Piece of Cake, Great Photo Booth, and Geotechnical Consultants, Inc.

Throughout the event, attendees collect raffle tokens at each farm activity they visit. Guests then choose to enter their tokens in the drawing for 30 gift baskets, each with a value of approximately $200. There is also one Grand Basket with a $500 value!

Wondering what to wear? Dress up in your favorite witch hat, fun accessory or full costume! This is an outdoor event at a working farm, so dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

This year, Leeds Farm is proud to welcome five central Ohio wineries to serve Witches Night Out guests.

Participating wineries serving locally produced wines include Bokes Creek Winery, Buckeye Winery, Camelot Cellars Winery, Soine Vineyards, and Blend of Seven Winery.

Admission tickets include one glass of wine. Additional glasses can be purchased at the event. Unopened bottles of wine can be purchased from the wineries to take home.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at http://www.leedsfarm.com/witchesnightout.php or Richwood Bank offices in Delaware, Marysville, Richwood and Plain City. In the case of inclement weather, the event rain date is Thursday, October 11.

Donations from the four previous Witches Night Out events totaled $58,724.

In 2018, 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Pink Ribbon Girls, a non-profit organization that provides healthy meals for the entire family, housecleaning, and transportation to medical appointments for breast and reproductive cancer patients during treatment. The Nutcracker is synonymous with the holidays! Maybe you already see it every year or you’re looking to start a special tradition with your family. Seeing The Nutcracker in the beautiful Ohio Theater is a memorable experience! It’s a Christmas memory of mine and I am looking forward to seeing it again this year! Central Ohio’s most beloved holiday tradition since 1974 — BalletMet’s The Nutcracker — will once again be presented from Dec. 8 to 24 at the historic Ohio Theatre. Set to Tchaikovsky’s original score performed by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the ballet is choreographed by former BalletMet Artistic Director Gerard Charles.

“This is our 40th anniversary season at BalletMet and the one constant production we’ve brought every year to our fans has been ‘The Nutcracker.’ We love the opportunity to perform in front of tens of thousands of Central Ohioans each year with this beloved production,” said BalletMet Artistic Director Edwaard Liang. “It’s wonderful to have our professional company and our academy students working together to create this show for Central Ohio.”

The tale of the imaginative Clara, the nutcracker who turns into a prince, the Mouse King and the Sugarplum Fairy, will feature a large cast including BalletMet’s professional dancers from both its companies – BalletMet and BalletMet 2, along with 152 students from the BalletMet Academy.  Each performance will have more than 122 characters onstage – including academy students in the roles of pages, party children, mice, and soldiers performing alongside BalletMet’s renowned professionals.

“Approximately 27,000 people came to our performances last year, and we look forward to delighting even more patrons with our 40th anniversary Nutcracker performance this year,” said BalletMet Executive Director Sue Porter. “Attending ‘The Nutcracker’ is a family holiday tradition here in Central Ohio, and the cast and staff make the choreography, the costumes and the sets come alive to make it a truly magical experience.”
