What Should We Do This Weekend? September 2-5, 2016 Labor Day Weekend!

It’s Labor Day Weekend – the official end of summer. Sad. Tears. But I’m looking forward to things like apple picking and fall festivals, wearing boots and sweaters and drinking hot coffee instead of iced. 🙂 Enjoy your holiday weekend!

1. Gala Apple Picking at The Orchard and Company

Visit The Orchard and Company to pick your own apples and enjoy other farmyard fun like pedal carts, a barrel train, zip lines, hill slide and more! This weekend is my personal favorite, Gala!

2. Greek Festival at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Time: Friday & Saturday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 Midnight, Sunday: 12:00 PM – 12:00 Midnight, Monday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The Greek festival features food, dancing, culture, shopping, cathedral tours, a Kids Activity Center, and more! Admission is $5 for adults, kids 12 and under are free, and your admission is good all weekend!

3. Dime A Dog Night at Columbus Clippers

When: Friday, September 2, 2016

Hot Dogs are $.10 a piece, tickets are $5 and if you have a AAA card, (up to 4) tickets are BOGO Free!

4. Rhythm on the River: BalletMet at Bicentennial Park

When: Friday, September 2, 2016
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: 233 Civic Center Drive , Columbus, OH 43215

This is the final Rhythm on the River of the summer and BalletMet dancers will perform excerpts from their 2016/2017 season! This event is free!

5. Historic Dublin Street Bazaar

When: Saturday, September 3, 2016
Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Enjoy an open-air market in downtown Dublin including local artists, 12 food trucks, an Irish Zone and more! Don’t forget to visit the NW Columbus Macaroni Kids Zone!

6. Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival at Ohio Village

When: Saturday & Sunday, September 3 & 4, 2016
Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The final weekend of the summer at Ohio Village is celebrated with the Ohio Cup, where 20 vintage base ball teams compete, including the Ohio Village Muffins! If you are an Ohio History Connection Member, this event is free!

7. Milford Center Bicentennial Celebration at Bicentennial Park

When: Saturday, September 3, 2016
Time: Parade begins at 1:00 PM
Location: Milford Center, OH

This celebration in Union County includes kids activities, a parade, a beard contest, craft show, ox roast, square dancing and more!

8. Gallery Hop

When: Saturday, September 3, 2016
Time: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM (though individual business hours may vary)
Location: Short North

This weekend is Gallery Hop in the Short North! Galleries stay open late and there is often street art and entertainment! This also includes free admission to Family Days at Pizzuti Collection!

9. Star Wars at High Banks Metro Park

When: Saturday, September 3, 2016
Time: 8:00 PM

Another last of the summer: the outdoor movies at High Banks! This week it’s Star Wars – The Force Awakens! There will be activities before the movie and popcorn will be provided!

10. Kids Eat Free at Chipotle

When: Sundays in September
Time: all day
Location: your local Chipotle

In September, kids 12 and under get a free kids meal when you purchase a burrito, bowl, an order of tacos or salad, plus they also get a Dragons Love Tacos activity sheet! Click the link for all the rules.

11. Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival at Northam Park

When: Monday, September 5, 2016
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: 2070 Northam Rd, Upper Arlington, OH 43221

Celebrate art at Upper Arlington’s 50th Labor Day Arts Festival! There will be food, activities, music and, of course, art! There will be family-friendly stations presented by Picassos, OSU Urban Arts Space, piccadilly and more! Look for book crafts, face painting, drama and other kid-friendly activities!

Yay for long weekends and holidays! Here is a mix of activities for your weekend, some are 4th of July related and some are not! Regardless, there is definitely no lack of entertainment this weekend! We’ll be celebrating my “baby’s” 2nd birthday! The second year goes so much faster than the first, don’t you think? I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July!

1. Ashland Balloonfest

When: Thursday, June 30 – Saturday, July 2, 2016
Time: Begins Thursday at 4:00 PM and ends on Sunday morning (see link for schedule)

If you’re looking to take a road trip this weekend, the Ashland Balloonfest is a whole weekend of fun events including a kids fun zone, exotic animals, fire trucks on display, COSI on Wheels, concessions and of course, hot air balloons!

2. KidX Club at Polaris Fashion Place

When: Friday, July 1, 2016

KidX Club is happening every Friday at Polaris Mall through August 12, 2016. Each week has a theme and this week is Safe Smart! Make an ID bracelet and enter the raffle for a bike helmet!

3. Red White and Boom

When: Friday, July 1, 2016
Time: Activities beginning at 12:00 PM
Location: Downtown Columbus

This huge event in downtown Columbus includes a parade, live music, Taste of BOOM, live broadcasts, a children’s park, fireworks and an after party! For kids, the Columbia Gas’ Children’s Park is at the corner of Neil Ave. and Long St.. There will be inflatables, a dunk tank, COSI on Wheels, Columbus Blue Jackets Slap Shot, face painting and more! It will be open from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The parade kicks off at 6:00 PM and will take place mainly on Front St. between Main and Long. Check the website for parking info and lots of details about attending the event!

4. Ballpark “Boom” at Huntington Park

When: Friday, July 1, 2016
Time: 5:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Location: 330 Huntington Park Ln, Columbus, OH 43215

For $5 you can enter Huntington Park for family-friendly fun at the ballpark. Activities include firecrackers, inflatables, zip lining, and two live concerts. Stay to view the fireworks and concert that continues afterwards. Tickets are available for resale or at the ticket office the night of. Some activities have additional costs.

5. Chalk it UP! in Downtown Delaware

When: Friday, July 1, 2016
Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

6. Reynoldsburg Independence Day Festival in Civic Park

This pre-fireworks festival includes inflatables, food trucks and live entertainment! Fireworks start at 9:45 PM!

7. Home Depot Kids Workshop

When: Saturday, July 2, 2016
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: your local Home Depot

Parent and child can come together to build an Ice Age: Collision Course bowling game. Kids get a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin!

8. Family Days at Pizzuti Collection

When: Saturday, July 2 2016
Time: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Family Days at the Pizzuti Collection has been moved to the first Saturday of the month, in conjunction with Gallery Hop! These special days include guided children’s tours at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM and a scavenger hunt. 9. Ohio Roller Girls at Ohio Expo Center

When: Saturday, July 2, 2016

This Saturday is your last chance to see the Ohio Roller Girls at home! Children under 8 are always free and games are kid-friendly!

Celebrate Independence Day with a parade, music, dancing and other old-fashioned family activities at Ohio Village!

11. Olentangy Summer Bash

This celebration features a Kids Zone and a Teen Zone, a live DJ and a fireworks show accompanied by a live soundtrack on Mix 107.9!

12. Creekside Family Day at the Independence Day Celebration

When: Monday, July 4, 2016
Time: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: 117 Mill St., Gahanna, OH 43230

Creekside Family Day includes activities throughout Creekside Park and Olde Gahanna such as face painting, inflatables, game truck, hamster balls and other family activities set up by featured sponsors! Live music takes place on the Rotary Stage! Some events require purchase of a wristband to participate.

Here we are, the first weekend in June already! I hope you’re enjoying the sunshine! I know I, for one, am happy to be able to get these kids out of the house every day! I always start out the day with the goal of letting them run around and get tired out, but they just seem to keep on going no matter how much running they do! 😉 Here are 12 things to do this weekend! Enjoy it!

1. Kids Concert on the Green on Worthington Village Green

2. Music + Movie at Bicentennial Park

A fun combination of Rhythm on the River and Movies on the Mile brings you the Arnett Howard band at 7:30 PM and a showing of the movie Inside Out at dusk! This event is free!

4. Hubbard School Bazaar and the Short North Yard Sale

Search for treasure at the Short North Yard Sale – individual yard sales happen all around the neighborhood! Stop by Hubbard School Bazaar to support the school and shop for kids stuff, sample coffee from Boston Stoker, and more! Bring a pair of shoes in any condition to donate to help the school raise money. See more here.

5. Summer at Reeb: A Community Celebration at Reeb Avenue Center

Kick off the summer with a family-friendly celebration while learning more about the services at the Reeb Avenue Center! The event features free food and live music by the OSU Alumni Marching Band and Supafun Band! If your kids love our local heroes, they’ll enjoy the Columbus Police Mounted Unit and a Columbus Fire Department truck. The celebration also includes face painting, balloon twisting, and more fun provided by the Columbus Zoo, COSI and Columbus Museum of Art.

6. Touch A Truck at CenterPoint Gahanna

When: Saturday, June 4, 2016

Children can climb on, touch and pretend to drive all kinds of large vehicles! A bounce house and food trucks will also be on location!

7. Grand Opening of Columbus Metropolitan Library, Parsons Branch

When: Saturday, June 4, 2016
Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Join Columbus Metropolitan Library for a dedication ceremony (12:00 PM – 12:30 PM) of the new Parsons Branch! The celebration that follows will include family friendly activities and entertainment! You can enter a drawing for an eReader and sign up for a commemorative library card!

June 4th is also the kick-off of the Summer Reading Club at Columbus Metropolitan Library! Sign up online or at any location to start reading books and winning prizes! (As a side note, I once won tickets to The Nutcracker in the adult summer reading program! Reading to your kids counts, so Mom and Dad, you should sign up, too! 😉 )

8. Touch a Turtle at Blendon Woods Metro Park

11. Family Days at Pizzuti Collection
