Looking for something to do with the family this weekend in Columbus? Try out one of these 13 family-friendly Columbus and Ohiobased events and activities!

1. Virtual Nature Story Time from Franklin Park Conservatory

Franklin Park Conservatory has begun to offer virtual story times for free for families! They will be released on Thursdays. Click the link for Faery Garden in Winter.

2. Half Priced Admission at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

From January 4-February 28, 2021, admission is half priced to Columbus Zoo! The Zoo will be open from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM daily. At this time, timed tickets are not required though capacity is limited.

3. Virtual Storytimes from ProMusica

ProMusica has many Musical Storytime episodes on their YouTube channel! These are for young kids and include stories and musicians who play instruments along with the stories! When you click the link you will also find links to their virtual family concert that was recorded in March.

4. Columbus Symphony Orchestra Kids Korner

Check out the Kids Korner website where you can take a virtual tour of Ohio Theatre, print coloring pages of instruments and composers, learn how to read music, learn about composers and play games!

5. DIY Winter Hike with Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks

Winter Hikes are happening at your own pace this year and each month different parks are featured. Pick up a Winter Hike Passport from a staff member and collect a patch for completing 7 hikes. There is a selfie station this month at Scioto Audubon Metro Park!

6. Free Dinner Family Skate at Skate Zone 71

Friday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM $12 includes admission, skate rental, a slice of cheese pizza and a drink.

7. Blooms and Butterflies at Franklin Park Conservatory

Beginning February 20, 2021, the butterflies will be back in the Pacific Island Water Garden biome at Franklin Park Conservatory! Daily butterfly demonstrations will not be taking place but there will be virtual opportunities to watch the butterflies be released!

8. Handmade Hat and Scarf Giveaway at Southwest Public Libraries

In need of a hat or scarf? Stop by the Grove City or Westland libraries to pick up a hand made hat and/or scarf on Saturday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM while supplies last.

9. Fluffy the Cat Virtual Paint Party with Kym’s Kanvas

Sing up for a virtual art class to paint fluffy the cat on Saturday at 12:00 PM! $10/per participant plus supplies. Register online.

10. Skate Around the Town at Easton Town Center

From February 20-March 20 ice skating will be offered at Easton’s Town Square from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Skates are available to borrow and skating is free! There will be 15 skaters on the rink at a time and masks are required.

11. Mouse Sweethearts Meet and Greet with Paulettes Princess Parties

Reserve a 10 minute time slot with your favorite Sweetheart Mouse friends! These are private time slots available on Sunday afternoon. There will be singing, dancing and fun!

12. Kids Skate Free Sunday at United Skates of America

Claim your ticket online for free kids admission (ages 12 and under) on Sunday at 1:00 PM. While supplies last.

13. Amped for Amphibians with Cleveland Metroparks

Register online for this virtual event on Sunday at 2:00 PM featuring a presentation where you can learn all about amphibians of the Cleveland Metroparks.

1. Half Priced Admission at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

From January 4-February 28, 2021, admission is half priced to Columbus Zoo! The Zoo will be open from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM daily. At this time, timed tickets are not required though capacity is limited. On Monday, February, 15, 2021 admission to the Columbus Zoo will be free in honor of President’s Day. Timed tickets are not required for this free day but capacity is limited.

5. 80’s vs. 90’s Free Dinner Skate at Skate Zone 71

Friday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM dressed in your 80’s attire! $12 includes admission, skate rental, a slice of cheese pizza and a drink.

6. Children’s Book Brunch with Granville Public Library

On Saturday at 10:00 AM join the Children’s Department staff for book recommendations on Instagram @gpl_kids.

7. Black History Month with Ohio History Connection

In celebration of Black History Month, Ohio History Connection invites you to take part in special programming. All programming is virtual and free for Ohio History Connection members unless noted. Advanced registration is required. This Saturday at 10:00 AM they are offering the Underground Railroad Immersive Experience.

Participants will observe and talk to residents from Ohio Village to understand the Underground Railroad and identify the secret “conductor.” Through the use of highly researched first-person interpreters, participants are able to experience the moral and social struggles surrounding the anti-slavery movement. This program is recommended for children 11+ and their families.

8. Valentine’s Day Carriage Rides, Pony Rides and Sledding

On Saturday from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM you can enjoy horseback sledding, pony rides, carriage rides, petting zoo animals and more. No reservations needed.

9. Valentine’s Day Opening at Sticky Fingers Ice Cream Parlor

For the first time ever, Sticky Fingers will be open on Valentine’s Day for your favorite ice cream and special treats! Hours will be Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM

10. DIY Hot Chocolate Heart Bomb at Dublin Toy Emporium

Create 1 Jumbo Heart Bomb and 1 Heart Cup to fill with sweets. Ages 4 and up. Sessions are for 1 family at a time. Call or text to reserve your time on Saturday between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

11. Winter Carriage Rides at Easton Town Center – CANCELLED due to weather

Winter Carriage Rides will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays until February 14, 2021. Rides are $10/person (cash only). Children under age 15 ride for free with a paying adult. Hours are Saturday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Sunday: 3:00 PM-7:00 PM.

12. Sweetheart Princess Valentine Zooms with BeautyBelle

Reserve your customized message from Belle via Zoom and Paulette’s Princess Parties. Call to schedule your time. Belle will sing, dance and deliver your customized message to your little prince or princess on Sunday.

4. Uplift Frontline Workers with Seeds of Caring 

This is an activity that can be done from home at anytime before January 31, 2021. Your family can create “cheer cards” and mail them to frontline healthcare workers at Mt. Carmel. This is a free opportunity. When you register you will receive an service project packet that will give you instructions and guided discussion ideas.

6. Facebook Live Family Storytime with Columbus Metropolitan Library

Join Columbus Metropolitan Library on Facebook Live for a live family story time with books, songs and rhymes. This one takes place Friday at 10:00 AM.

7. Wild Ohio Week with Ohio History Connection

It’s not to late to join Ohio History Connection for the end of Wild Ohio Week! Click the link to register for two upcoming session on Friday and Saturday: Improving Small Forest Patches for Birds and Walk with Wolves and Walk with Hawks.

8. Free Admission to Columbus Museum of Art

The Columbus Museum of Art is free to visit on 5 Saturdays in January! Visitors on Saturdays will also receive a 30% discount at the Museum Store and the Schokko Café. The museum is also always free on Sundays! Hours are 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM on the weekends.

9. DIY Hot Chocolate Heart Bombs at Dublin Toy Emporium

Make DIY heart hot chocolate bombs and a chocolate heart cup. One family per session. Reservations required. Reservations available between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Saturday.
