What Should We Do This Weekend? May 18-20, 2018

29 family friendly events happening in Columbus, Ohio this weekend!

FRIDAY

9:30 AM –Touch a Truck at Worthington Community Center – kids can explore big trucks and vehicles and meet the people who protect and serve in the Worthington Community! There will be over 40 vehicles on display along with other activities for kids. There will also be car seat checks, a food drive and the whole event will be “no horn”!

11:00 AM – Food Truck Friday at Easton Town Center – part of the 4th Annual Easton Food Fest, there will be over 20 food trucks on site plus live music!

10:00 AM – Sing-a-long and Dance Party Thyme with Jennifer Ellis at Fresh Thyme Farmers Markets (Dublin) – this free Kids Music Show includes singing, dancing, instruments bubble and free snacks! This event will also happen at 11:30 at the Gahanna location.

6:30 PM – Music & Art in the Park at Stradley Park – this free summer concert includes live music, art demonstrations and family friendly activities! This week’s theme is Tribute to First Responders and music is by The Usual Suspects and the Repeat Offenders.

SATURDAY

8:00 AM – 2018 Komen Columbus Race for the Cure – Race for the Cure includes a 1 mile family fun walk and this year there will be activities for kids including a pink fire truck and brick pits from Legoland adjacent to the EXPO!

9:00 AM – The Children’s Garden Grand Opening at Franklin Park Conservatory – celebrate the grand opening of the Scotts Miracle Gro Foundation Children’s Garden! Remarks will begin at 9:30 AM and the gates will open shortly thereafter. See our Sneak Peek of the Children’s Garden!

9:00 AM – Cinderella and Friends Royal Princess Ball at PARTY Like it’s Your Birthday – Cinderella and her princess friends will host a royal ball with singing, dancing, performances, crafts, games and more! There are two time slots to choose from! Register online.

9:00 AM – Market Sprouts at the Worthington Farmers Market – perfect for kids ages 12 and under, check out a kid-friendly activity happening on the third Saturday of the month at the information table at the Worthington Farmers Market!

10:00 AM Historian in Training at Ohio History Center – Kids ages 7-11 can learn historical thinking skills as through hands on activities. This week’s theme is World War I. Register online.

10:00 AM – Touch a Truck at Grove City UMC – get up close and personal with big trucks! There will be a quiet break for kids with sensitivity to sounds at 11:00 AM.

10:00 AM – Kids and Cops Day – at Ohio University Lancaster/Pickerington – enjoy hands on fun for kids with a safety theme.

11:00 AM – Children’s Fishing at Sharon Woods Metro Park – kids can fish in Schrock Lake!

11:00 AM – UA Spring Fling at Sunny 95 Park – the Upper Arlington Spring Fling includes live music, a kids workshop, touch a truck activities, a fishing derby, inflatables, carnival games, arts and crafts and more!

11:00 AM – Sensory Friendly Films: The Wizard of Oz at Gateway Film Center – this is a free, sensory friendly screening of The Wizard of Oz for families and individuals with autism or developmental disabilities with lights kept up and a lower volume.

11:00 AM – New Albany Founders Day Parade & Festival in New Albany, OH – celebrate the founding of New Albany with rides, games and food! This is a free event that also includes a parade, concession booths, face painting, pony rides, meet and greet with Paw Patrol characters and more! The parade starts at 11:00 AM.

12:00 PM – Touch a Truck at Prairie Township Community Center – climb on big vehicles and trucks that keep Prairie Township safe!

12:00 PM – Community Fun Fest! at Bible Baptist Church of Grove City  – this free festival includes carnival games, hot dogs, cotton candy, inflatables, giveaways and more!

12:00 PM – Grove City Splash Pad Grand Opening at Grove City YMCA – celebrate the opening of the new Grove City Splash Pad at Fryer Park! Ribbon cutting is at noon! Park will be open for free use on weekdays from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM through Labor Day.

4:00 PM – Water Safety Day at Goldfish Swim School – this free event is being held at both the Dublin and the Westerville locations of Goldfish Swim School. There will be water safety clinics, a free family swim, entertainment for kids, refreshments and more!

5:30 – Father-Daughter Fairies and Pirates Night at Gahanna/John E. Bickley YMCA – come in costume to this magical night filled with fairies, princesses and pirates! Make fairy dust, walk the plank, dance and more fun activities! Brothers are welcome, too! Recommended for ages 3-11. Register online.

SUNDAY

8:00 AM – Zoo Run 5K & Kids’ Ele-FUN-Run

 at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium – participate in a 3.1 mile run/walk or the kids 1/4 mile “Ele-FUN-Run” taking place at Columbus Zoo. Participating in this race includes a free pass to the zoo! Register online.

10:00 AM – Kicking Cancer Soccer Camp and Walk-a-thon – the Kicking Cancer youth soccer camp is a nonprofit camp dedicated to teaching kids the game of soccer! Kids will be provided with coaching from the Otterbein Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams and other local soccer organizations. Proceeds from the camp are donated to the James Cancer Hospital and Solve Research Institute! There will also be special visitors from the Columbus Zoo! Register online.

11:00 AM – EMS and Safety Day at COSI – get up close to police officers, fire fighters and other first responders! Check out their vehicles and the Jaws of Life! Free with COSI admission or membership!

11:00 AM – Sunday Family Fun Day at The Draft Room – Family Funday features free crafts for kids, beer and drink specials and chicken and waffles!

12:00 PM – KidX Club: Butterflies & Balloons at Polaris Fashion Place – this month’s KidX Club theme is butterflies and balloons! There will be colorful decorations and activities for kids!

12:00 PM – 3rd Westside Community Baby Shower!! at Hilltop YMCA – this event is for moms on the west side of Columbus who are pregnant! There will be prizes, giveaways, free diapers, resources and more! RSVP online! They are also accepting donations of baby items or diapers for this event!

1:00 PM – Sweet Sunday at Easton Town Center – sample sweets from Easton restaurants for $1 each with proceeds going to the Easton Community Foundation! There will be live music too!

1:00 PM – CANCELLED – April Showers Bring May Flowers at Clay Street Ceramics – this craft event is for kids and adults ages 12 and up. Learn the art of paper flower making! Cost is $20. Register in advance.

2:00 PM – Kid’s Bike Rodeo at Reynoldsburg City Hall – this event focuses on bike safety and police will be on site to teach about hand signals, wearing a helmet and more! Register in advance for this free event.
