If you suffer from allergies, read about my experience with Premier Allergy & Asthma! Thanks to Premier Allergy & Asthma for sponsoring this post.
If you know you have allergies but are unsure what your triggers are, I recommend getting allergy testing! It is so eye-opening! As a long-time sufferer of seasonal allergies, I decided it would be a good idea to partner with Premier Allergy & Asthma for an updated allergy test to find out exactly what allergens my body is reacting to!
What Does an Allergy Test Entail?
This allergy test was done on my back. A series of over 100 potential allergens were lightly pricked onto my back! After waiting about 20 minutes, the reactions on my back were measured.
I had a couple of inconclusive results that were double-checked with a slightly deeper skin test on my arm. The first appointment also included a Lung Function test.
The skin prick testing is really quick and, for me personally, the itchiness lasted for about 30 minutes total, getting less itchy as the 30 minutes went on. Premier Allergy & Asthma made this process as painless and quick as it possibly could be!
As you can see in the photo above, I had some pretty major reactions to the test! If it’s found in nature, I’m probably allergic to it!
What About Food Allergies?
Allergy skin testing also covers food allergies. In the past, I have had some mild reactions to various nuts and fruits, and I found out that I do have a hazelnut allergy!
If you’re interested in getting yourself or your kids tested for food allergies, I definitely recommend Premier Allergy & Asthma for allergy testing! They make the process as quick as possible!
I’m not going to lie, it’s a little prickly and itchy but it doesn’t last long and the information you gain from the results is worth the short period of discomfort! That knowledge can make your life much more comfortable moving forward!
What About Pet Allergies?
My allergy testing at Premier Allergy & Asthma confirmed what I already suspected! I’m allergic to dogs, cats and rabbits!
Did you know that there is no such thing as a 100% hypoallergenic dog? Though some dog breeds may be less allergenic, all dogs produce dander which is what causes most dog or pet allergies!
Since my kids always beg for a dog, CNP Ben Boerner at Premier Allergy & Asthma gave me some information on how allergy shots may make it possible for us to have a pet at home. (No kids, this is not a promise!) If that is information that your family needs, I’d encourage you to schedule an appointment with Premier Allergy & Asthma to find out if allergy shots are something that might allow YOU to have a pet at home!
How to Combat Spring Allergens
Because we are heading into prime Spring Allergy season, CNP Ben Boerner gave me some tips for battling Spring allergies:
- Shower at night to remove pollen from your body and hair
- Use a HEPA air filter in the room where you spend the most time
- Keep your windows closed
- Start taking allergy meds ahead of time
What Can Be Done About Allergies?
Make an appointment with Premier Allergy & Asthma to find out what your triggers are and how allergy shots may be able to help you live more comfortably! Allergen immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, can help treat the underlying problems that cause allergic reactions. Allergy shots introduce diluted amounts of allergens through shots in your arm and they teach your body not to react to those allergens over time.
