What Should We Do This Weekend? October 27-29, 2017

Just like last week, I did not duplicate anything that is already on my Halloween Events Around Columbus post! So make sure to also check out that post if you’re looking for family-friendly Halloween events happening this weekend (there are lots more)! 🙂 This is also the last weekend for many of the Fall Festival Weekends going on at local farms that are listed here!

1. Model Railroad Days at COSI

When: Wednesday-Sunday, October 25-29, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

See several large model railroads on display, this weekend only, at COSI! While you’re there, make sure to see the Thomas and Friends exhibit for more train fun too!

2. Haunted Maze at Hoover Gardens

When: Now through October 31, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Location: 182 Sunbury Rd., Westerville, OH 43081

The haunted maze at Hoover Gardens is free to walk through and kid-friendly! The maze is open during regular businesses hours and is appropriate for ages 7 and up!

3. Pumpkin Picking and Hayrides at Kuhlweins Farm Market & Deli

When: Now through October 31, 2017 (closed Wednesdays)
Time: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Location: 1859 Walker Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026

Fall Fun at Kuhlweins Market and Deli includes a hayride, animal zoo, corn maze and pumpkin picking! Inflatables, pony rides, balloon twisting and face painting on the weekends!

4. Great Pumpkin Fun Center at Pigeon Roost

When: Tuesday-Sunday through October 31, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Location: 4413 National Rd. SW, Hebron, OH 43025

Pigeon Roost features a pumpkin patch, farm animals and The Great Pumpkin Fun Center with giant slides, mazes, a fort, play areas, and tons more! Weekends include wagon rides, face painting, crafters and concessions!

5. Fall Fun Days at Circle S Farms

When: Thursday, September 28-October 31, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM Daily
Location: 9015 London Groveport Rd. Grove City, OH 43123

Fall Fun Days start on September 28 and run through October 31, 2017. This farm is one of the few open during the week! Fall Fun Days feature hayrides, pumpkin picking, farm market, petting zoo, corn and sunflower mazes, bale cave and more!

6. Corn Maze at Lynd Fruit Farm

When: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until October 29, 2017
Time: Fri and Sat: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Sun: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

At Lynd Fruit Farm you can pick your own apples and pumpkins and enjoy the farm market on its own or also head over to the giant corn maze where there is also a barrel train, fun zone, bounce house, wagons rides and more!

7. Family Friday Night at COSI

When: Friday, October 27, 2017
Time: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

On the last Friday of each month, COSI offers extended hours (open until 9PM!) and price reduced admission to families so you can visit, learn, and play late! General admission is only $11 after 5pm and includes all of COSI’s permanent exhibitions plus a movie in the National Geographic Giant Screen Theater! (Free for members.)

8. The MAiZE at Little Darby Creek

When: Fridays-Sundays through October 29, 2017
Time: Fridays: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Saturdays: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Sundays: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The MAiZE at Little Darby Creek features a huge corn maze plus a cow train, barnyard bouncer, petting zoo, kiddie maze, ball zone, slides, laser tag, pedal carts, kids fun barn, tether ball and more! Hayrides are also available! This weekend includes a costume contest! This weekend is the Great Pumpkin Smash!

9. Midnight Madness

 in Uptown Westerville

When: Friday, October 27, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Location: throughout Uptown Westerville

Explore Uptown Westerville’s decorated shops and get treats, surprises and deals while you do! There will be kid-friendly activities and the merchants will be passing out treats to the kids! Costumes welcome!

10. Movies in the Park!  at Westgate Recreational Center

When: Friday, October 27, 2017
Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Location: 455 S. Westgate Ave., Columbus, OH 43204

The movie Zootopia will be shown at this free event!  Bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs! Movie will be inside if it rains.

11. Family Fun Night

 at Homestead Metro Park

When: Friday, October 27, 2017

Families can enjoy crafts, activities and stargazing!

12. Horseradish and Apple Butter Day at Lawrence Orchard

When: Saturday, October 28, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

This is a free event that includes the opportunity to take a turn at stirring apple butter and experience horseradish grinding in an authentic setting! There will also be a corn maze and corn bin!

13. Fall Farm Fun at Leeds Farm

When: Saturdays and Sundays through October 29, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Leeds Farm is open six weekends only through October 29 with hayrides, farm animals, farm pond, pumpkins and gourds! Back 40 Barn Pass admission includes Pumpkin Jumps, John Deere combine slide, mountain slides, Big Zip and mini zip lines, rolling tubes, straw forts, pig races, pedal carts, the biggest corn box in Ohio, and more!

14. Fall Fun Festival at Dill’s Greenhouse

Fall festivals are happening on the weekends, September 30 – October 31, 2017. Hayrides, corn maze, fire pit and hotdogs and s’mores for roasting (bring your own or purchase there), straw maze, sand box, pumpkins, games and activities!

15. Fall Festival at Freeman’s Farm

There is a really long list of activities going on throughout all of the weekends now through October at this pumpkin farm in Delaware County! 18. Trick or Tweet at Grange Insurance Audubon Center

21. Make A Difference Day with CKDG

Make a difference with Columbus Kids Do Good as they make snack packs for families at Ronald McDonald House, put together hygiene kits for children, complete a project for Blessings in a Backpack and more! Spider-Man and Rapunzel will visit and there will be food vendors and raffle prizes! Families can come and go at their convenience between 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

22. Flashlight Cave Tour

 at Olentangy Indian Caverns

This is the last weekend to tour the caverns with just a flashlight! Flashlights will be provided for these special tours and children must be at least 8 years old to participate.

23. Lewis Center Fall Fest

This event includes bounce houses, balloon twisting, face painting, craft tables, a magician, free pictures with the Snow Queen, vendors, raffles, food trucks and more! Admission is one canned-food donation per person.

If you’re looking for some fun activities to do with your family over the long weekend, I’ve rounded up a list of events going on over Labor Day Weekend! Don’t worry, I’ll still have my full list of kid-friendly activities to publish later this week, but these are a few fun ideas to whet your appetite in the meantime! 😉 (See 18 things to do Labor Day Weekend 2017 right here!)

Friday:

Columbus Greek Festival at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

The Columbus Greek Festival is going on Friday-Monday, so you make this a part of any day this weekend! However, you should stop in on Friday because your ticket ($5 for adults, kids 12 and under are free) is good for the entire weekend! That way, any time you don’t feel like cooking this weekend, you can head down to the festival for yummy greek food instead! 😉 Besides food, the festival also includes educational activities, shops, music and dancing, exhibits and a kids activity center! See the link for all the times and details!

McGuffey Lane in Concert at Columbus Commons

Kick off the weekend with a free concert at Columbus Commons! Drinks and food trucks begin at 5:30 PM and the opening act starts at 7:00, so even if the kiddos can’t stay up for a late concert (which starts at 8:00 PM), you can have dinner and enjoy some music before bedtime!


Saturday:

Grand Opening of Donatos Powell

Dontatos Powell celebrates it’s reopening of the new store and the new school year with a block party from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM! There will be face painting, guests from the Columbus Zoo, balloon animals and virtual reality games! The first 100 people will get Free 4D movie passes from The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and a Pepsi 2-Liter! There will also be free pizza!

44 Pages Screening Event at Gateway Film Center

Who remembers reading Highlights at the doctors’s office? I do! I do! Headquartered in Columbus, Highlights is celebrating it’s 70th Anniversary Issue with a new documentary called 44 PAGES. The Columbus screening takes place at Gateway Film Center and on Saturday, a special family-friendly event is being held that includes free giveaways, a book reading, games, crafts and more! Activities start at 2:00 PM and the movie will be shown at 3:00 PM, followed by a Q&A.

Family Fun Day at Columbus Commons

Head down to Columbus Commons for a free Family Fun Day, Saturday from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM! Activities include inflatables, face painting, balloon twisters, putt-putt, crafts, a photo booth and more! A $5 wristband is available for unlimited access to all activities. (Not all activities require a wristband.) Food trucks will be on site and the movie The Jungle Book will be shown at 4:00 PM.


Sunday:

Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival at Ohio History Center

The Ohio Cup features over 30 teams from all over the US who come to Ohio Village for one of the largest vintage base ball festivals in the nation! This is 1860’s style base ball (yes, it was two words back then)! There will also be fun games for the kids, dancing, a barbershop quartet, food trucks, rides in a Ford Model A, blacksmith demonstrations and the chance to try out base ball for yourself! This event is going on Saturday AND Sunday, so you can take your pick! Included with general admission or membership.

Shakespeare in the Park at Schiller Park

Thursday through Sunday you can see the Actors’ Theatre of Columbus perform Shakespeare’s The Tempest in Schiller Park. The performances are “pay what you will” and donations are gladly accepted. You can reserve a seat ahead of time for $20 or reserve a blanket space for $20 which includes an ATC logo blanket!


Monday:

UA Labor Day Arts Festival in Northam Park

The Upper Arlington Arts festival is held in Northam Park and features around 200 local, regional and national artists. There is also live entertainment, vendors, art activities and food available for purchase! Admission is free!

Dime a Dog Night at Columbus Clippers

Sugardale Hot Dogs are only $.10 each all night (or afternoon) long! The Clippers play the Louisville Bats at 2:05 PM!
