Caffeine lovers will find their next fix on this list of some of the best local coffee shops in the great state of Ohio!
Coffee is an important part of my life. In fact, drinking a cup of coffee is the first thing I do every morning! My go-to drink is an unsweetened, hot latte but I will splurge on specialty espresso drinks when I want to treat myself or try a unique flavor! I love visiting unique and cute coffee shops wherever we go!
We live in Columbus, Ohio and there are so many great coffee shops in Columbus! (You can read my list of coffee shops in downtown Columbus for more ideas!) It’s nearly a full-time job just trying to visit all of the coffee shops within our city limits! LOL!
Whenever we travel throughout the state, my husband and I are always on the lookout for the most unique coffee shops in Ohio! This list consists of some of the best coffee shops in Ohio that we have personally visited. As we explore, I’ll continue to add to this list so you will have inspiration for your next cup of delicious coffee!
1. Walkie Talkie Espresso & Coffee
- Address: 504 15th St NW, Canton, OH 44703
- Website
- Indoor Seating Available
This coffee shop in Canton is so bright and fun! I had it on my list to visit ever since I first saw a picture of its bright orange building and decor! Luckily enough, when we visited, the coffee was worth the trip!
For a smaller building (a former filling station), there is a decent amount of seating. The space is divided into two rooms. The staff here was super friendly and gave us some ideas for lunch options in the area.
I got a plain latte because that’s my go-to coffee drink, but they also have baked goods and a fun menu of seasonal drinks. We visited this coffee shop in Northeast Ohio at Christmastime and their list of seasonal drinks got its inspiration from the movie A Christmas Story (which was filmed in Cleveland)! For instance: You’ll Shoot Your Chai Out, Red Ryder and Triple Nog Dare!
2. The Coffee Vault
- Address: 9 W Columbus St, Galena, OH 43021
- Website
You won’t be disappointed with a visit to The Coffee Vault in Galena, Ohio! First of all, it’s located on the adorable square of Galena. We’re talking total Gilmore Girl vibes here!
They have a real vault inside the coffee shop, hence the name! There is a good-sized seating area downstairs and an outdoor patio for warm days!
While this post is about coffee, promise me you will get the humungous chocolate chip cookie! It’s the size of your head and it’s amazing. Trust me.
3. Parable Cafe
- Address: 149 S High St, Columbus, OH 43215
- Instagram Page
Parable Cafe is an upscale coffee shop located in downtown Columbus with an extensive coffee menu during the day and a cocktail menu at night! Parable is also well known for its amazing pastry creations by local chef Aaron Clouse.
On the menu you will find espresso drinks such as americanos, cortados, cappuccinos and lattes plus pour overs, hot tea, matcha and a rotation of seasonal drinks. The decor is bright and modern with an emphasis on greenery throughout the space.
Parable believes in paying their employees a fair wage, so you will notice that the gratuity is built into the price of the coffee. The price of the coffee is higher than you will find at other shops, but Parable also wants their coffee to be accessible to all. The cafe offers that those without the means to purchase their drink can ask for their coffee to be put on their “community card”.
4. Undergrounds Café & Coffee House
- Address: 146 E Liberty St, Wooster, OH 44691
- Website
I’m partial to this coffee shop in Wooster, Ohio because of the history here. Wooster is my hometown. And though this coffee shop location has changed names and owners over the years, I’ve had many coffee dates in this shop over time. I’m happy to say my experience at Undergrounds Café kept the good memories going!
I love the “underground” theme. We’re not talking about excavating dirt and rocks, we’re talking about the London subway, or Underground. Plus the coffee shop is literally underground! It’s located in the basement of the Liberty Street Marketplace in downtown Wooster. The decor features subway maps from various cities. I love subway maps so this resonated with me!
This coffee shop serves macarons, breakfast sandwiches and, of course, coffee and espresso drinks. When we were there they had a large selection of muffins, a variety of pastries, and were offering macaroon flights! Recently, on social media, I saw them advertise soup flights and that is something I can really get behind!
Make sure to check out my list of things to do in Wooster before planning your visit!
5. Oasis Coffee Shop & More
- Address: 26850 US-33, Rockbridge, OH 43149
- Website
Oasis Coffee shop is such a great place to stop for coffee on your way to or from the Hocking Hills region! Located in Rockbridge, Ohio, this coffee shop in a log cabin is in the same shopping complex as the Hocking Hills Flea Market on route 33.
My family was entertained and enamored by the fun decor at Oasis Coffee Shop! All of the coffee-themed signage and photo ops made this a really fun stop for coffee! Plus, they have enormous donuts and pastries! And I mean enormous.
Additionally, Oasis Coffee shop always has an extensive list of seasonal drinks! When my husband and I stopped. here in the fall, it was hard to choose from all of their Halloween drinks! I got the Brew Boo which featured a mocha with toasted marshmallow!
Oasis also has an 18-hole mini-golf course on-site! So not only is this coffee shop a great place for a drink or a treat, it’s a true destination for fun! They also have a second location called Oasis Coffee Shop 2.0 where they serve coffee out of a truck closer to Hocking Hills State Park.
Read about more restaurants in Hocking Hills or things to do in Hocking Hills to round out your trip to this wonderful place!
6. Lionheart Coffee
- Address: 530 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115
- Website
I loved this coffee shop in downtown Cleveland because of its decor and creative coffee drinks! And because their slogan is “Fearless in the pursuit of coffee” and that makes me smile.
We visited this coffee shop one summer when we were staying in downtown Cleveland, visiting the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock Hall of Fame! It’s a great spot if you’re in the heart of downtown Cleveland and need a good coffee pick me up!
Located in the 5th Street Arcades, this coffee shop has all the coffee drinks you’ve come to expect when walking into a coffee shop PLUS some interesting options like a “black eye” (i.e. lots of caffeine) and a cocoa float. Lionheart also has a list of specialty lattes and from that list, I chose the aptly named Lionheart Latte.
The Lionheart Latte had flavors of bourbon, caramel, brown sugar and cinnamon. It was tasty! My kids got hot chocolate so there was something for all of us to enjoy! Read about more things to do in Cleveland to plan your own trip!
7. Coffeeology
- Address: 43 N Sandusky St, Delaware, OH 43015
- Website
Coffeeology in downtown Delaware, Ohio calls itself “A Collective of Our Favorite Things” and this is such a fitting description because Coffeeology is more than just a coffee shop!
This coffee shop in Delaware, Ohio is unique because it is also a home goods shop that features national and local artisans and just generally cool stuff for sale! They have a large selection of hot and cold coffee drinks including cold brew and iced lattes. They also offer non-coffee options like teas, matcha and fruit smoothies.
This large but cozy space has comfortable chairs and couches as well as tables for working or hanging out with friends. I visited this coffee shop with my two sons and all three of us chose a cookie from their selection of baked goods and I got an iced latte. After we got our treats, we were off to explore downtown Delaware and the adorable Beanbag Books (which is included on my list of magical bookstores in Ohio)!
8. Koffee Paradise
- Address: 6308 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43213
- Facebook Page
Don’t let the exterior of this unassuming coffee shop in Reynoldsburg, Ohio fool you! Inside the shop is warm, welcoming and, dare we say, tropical! The greenery hanging from the ceiling and the fun decor make this coffee shop a destination on the east side of Columbus!
Koffee Paradise serves Crimson Cup coffee, including a huge menu of hot drinks, iced coffee drinks and frozen drinks called Breezes. They also serve pastries and desserts.
There is ample seating here and some fun photo ops, too!
9. Stauf’s Coffee at Dennison Place
- Address: 1334 Neil Ave, Columbus, OH 43201
- Website
Stauf’s Coffee is a local favorite in Columbus with multiple locations and I chose to highlight their Victorian Village location because of it’s wow factor! Stauf’s Coffee is always going to be good and this location has a real vibe about it!
This location on Neil Avenue is located in an old, renovated church. A lot of components of the church were repurposed and the stained glass windows add a distinctive element. This coffee shop is located near the campus of The Ohio State University and in the Victorian Village neighborhood of the Short North.
The menu here includes drip coffee, your favorite espresso drinks, hot or iced, and signature flavored drinks! When the weather is nice, a patio is also available for outdoor seating!
10. Ethos + Co Cafe
- Address: 6576 Africa Rd, Westerville, OH 43082
- Instagram Page
Ethos Cafe is a coffee shop in Westerville, Ohio with a huge indoor seating and gathering area.
They use Florin Coffee and have a lot of really yummy-looking baked goods! We tried the pie bar and it was delicious! In addition to the typical coffee drinks and teas, their menu includes alternative milks, a root beer float, and a hot chocolate sized just for kids! They also serve smoothies and smoothie bowls!
With tons of seating and a shelf of board games that can be used in the shop, this is the perfect place for a coffee lover to hang out for a while or bring their laptop to work.
What is unique about Ethos + Co Cafe is that they are a non-profit coffee shop and all of their profits are donated to local organizations! Check their Instagram page (linked above) to see their current partner.
11. Mom ‘n ‘ em Coffee & Wine
- Address: 3128 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45225
- Website
Recently, I heard that Mom ‘n ’em Coffee & Wine in Cincinnati had been named the Number 5 coffee shop in the United States by Food & Wine! So, as I do, I added them to my list of places to eventually visit! The next time we were in Cincinnati, we made a plan to visit the original location on Colerain Avenue.
This coffee shop is located inside a house (with a cool mural on the side) and there is a huge outdoor seating area. It was February, so we didn’t get to enjoy the patio, but we were imagining how fun it would be when the weather was warm!
The coffee was, in fact, delicious! Mom ‘n ’em’s was a popular destination on a Sunday afternoon! The staff was very friendly and I’m so glad we got to try it out!
This location of Mom ‘n ‘Em is really close to the American Sign Museum, which is where we went afterward (See more details on my list of fun things to do in Cincinnati)! A second location of the coffee shop can be found on the east side of the city!
12. Pettibone Coffee
- Address: 215 Woodman Dr, Dayton, OH 45431
- Website
My son and I visited Pettibone Coffee on a trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Airforce! It’s not far from there at all, so if you need a caffeine pick-me-up before you walk through 4 humungous buildings of aircraft, this is your place!
More than being just a convenience, Pettibone is a SUPER cool coffee shop! Pettibone roasts their own beans and you can see part of that process inside the shop. The coffee shop has tons of seating. It’s big and open with large garage doors that I assume can be opened in warm weather!
The artwork is bright and fun and the coffee is great! They also sell baked goods and sandwiches. This coffee shop in Dayton feels like a special place and I wish we lived closer!
Make a stop at Pettibone Coffee a must when you plan a trip to Dayton, Ohio!
13. Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.
- Address: 8911 S Old State Rd, Lewis Center, OH 43035
- Instagram Page
Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co opened in Lewis Center, Ohio in 2024! They are the self-proclaimed “biggest coffee shop in Ohio” and I cannot confirm or deny if that is the truth, but I can’t think of a bigger coffee shop!
The coffee shop has a ton of seating, including cushioned benches around the shop’s walls. The Yemeni decor is beautiful! It’s a great place for a coffee date or to set up and work for a couple of hours!
This coffee shop serves Yemeni coffee and the pistachio latte is a favorite! I’ve had it hot and iced and its delicious either way! While you’re there, try out one of their milk cakes, you won’t be disappointed!
14. Coffee Hall and Creamery
- Address: 124 N Main St, Marysville, OH 43040
- Website
My son and I stopped into Coffee Hall and Creamery in Marysville and this coffee shop was hopping! It was late September so the fall drink menu was in full swing! When I say there was a staggering amount of fall drinks on the menu, I am not exaggerating! LOL
I was swayed immediately by the sign posted right inside the front door. If it wasn’t for that, I would have been frozen with indecision because there were so many delicious-sounding options! The Happy Camper Latte had toasted marshmallow, hickory smoke and cocoa powder for flavor and it was good!
Another fall drink that caught my eye was the Honey Nut Cheerio Latte. That would have been my next choice!
I can’t wait to see what they come up with for holiday drinks! But just in case you’re reading this in the spring or summer, please comment below to tell me what drink options you found tempting!
15. The Red Hen Cafe & Bakery
- Address: 542 OH-161, Plain City, OH 43064
- Website
I stopped into The Red Hen in Plain City for lunch for the first time and it was DELIGHTFUL!! I got the chicken salad and Lydia’s Latte (a latte with caramel and dark chocolate flavoring). All of it was so good!
When the weather is warm, they have a great patio and a garage door that opens up to the outside! It was perfect!!
The cafe also sells breakfast, baked goods and donuts. It is strictly a breakfast and lunch destination and it closes each day at 2:30 PM so make sure to stop in early for your caffeine fix!
16. Phoenix Coffee Co
- Address: 12501 Madison Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107
- Website
Phoenix Coffee is a Cleveland-based coffee roaster with (at time of writing) 6 locations in the Cleveland area!
We stopped into the Lakewood (Birdtown) location for coffee and baked goods on a recent trip to Cleveland! The coffee was really good and I thought the light and bright atmosphere was really welcoming.
I got the pear and chai spiced scone and a plain latte. My husband got a black coffee and a muffin. The baked goods were a nice complement to the coffee and we enjoyed our visit very much! There are a lot of shops to explore nearby so plan to make a nice morning out of your visit to Lakewood!
17. Das KaffeeHaus von Frau Burkhart
- Address: 45 E Columbus St, Lithopolis, OH 43136
- Website
Das KaffeeHaus is a European-style cafe with authentic German-inspired coffee and pastries. Located in downtown Lithopolis, Ohio, this coffee shop is worth a visit!
The decor includes stained glass windows, chandeliers and cozy seating. The coffee shop offers seasonal specials and because it was “back to school” season, I chose the School Boy’s Tears – a latte with marshmallow and vanilla!
Check out the full menu of coffee drinks and enjoy a pastry at Das Kaffehaus!
18. Coffee & Cream
- Address: 131 W 2nd St, Lakeside Marblehead, OH 43440
- Website
If you haven’t been to Lakeside Chautauqua, it is a special place! One of our favorite spots at Lakeside is Coffee & Cream. It is THE spot for your morning coffee!
Coffee & Cream offers a large menu of hot, cold, frozen and specialty coffee drinks! They also sell ice cream, non-coffee drinks and a few pre-made food items! The inside is cute and they also have a great outdoor patio!
*Coffee and Cream is a seasonal business. They are open Spring through Fall and close for the winter season.
Lakeside Chatauqua is a gated community which means you will have to pay a fee to enter for the day (or week). However, they have recently began offering a free Shopping/Dining pass that is good for 2 hours! This pass will allow you to visit shops and restaurants during your visit. This pass is available to pick up at the Fifth Street Gate, South Gate and Welcome Center upon entry (not online).
19. Val’s Bakery
- Address: 25 S St Clair St, Dayton, OH 45402
- Website
Val’s Bakery is a dreamy bakery and coffee shop in downtown Dayton, Ohio! It’s gorgeous inside and the pastries all look incredible!
My husband and I tried the Strawberry Mascarpone Pastry and the Almond Crossaint. They were so good!
The pastries are known to sell out at Val’s Bakery, but they will stay open to sell coffee! The shop sells all the typical coffee drinks you would expect: espresso, lattes, mochas, etc. They also have a non-coffee menu that includes matcha, chai and tea. Syrups are made in house!

We love Relax, It’s Just Coffee in Mansfield. Can also swing by the carousel for the kiddos or make a day out of it with the Little Buckeye Museum, Kingswood Gardens, or Ohio Bird Sanctuary.
