We already know that Columbus is home to some of the most unique ice cream in Ohio! But it seems that lately we just can’t be content with a simple scoop of ice cream on top of a cone! The best desserts in Columbus are combinations of SEVERAL desserts wrapped up in one!
Who wants just ice cream when you can have it rolled or smashed between two cupcakes? Who wants a plain fruit salad when you can have it swirled with a spicy sauce and mango ice cream? And what about those extreme milkshakes that are essentially 5 desserts in one?

1. The Mangonada at Dulce Vida

What is a Mangodada? Mix fresh cut mangos, mango ice cream, chamoy hot sauce and tamarind for a cold, yet hot, sweet but spicy treat! This has to be one of the most unique combinations when it comes to ice cream treats!
Dulce Vida is home to a lot of really unique Mexican ice cream treats and desserts! With three ice cream shops in Columbus, you’re never very far from some of my favorite desserts! In fact, I’ve included Dulce Vida West on my Unofficial West Side Ice Cream Trail!
2. Specialty Milkshakes at The Yard Milkshake Bar
Location: 1055 N. High St, Columbus, OH 43201
The Yard Milkshake Bar in the Short North offers some pretty extreme milkshakes! These decadent shakes come in a Pint Jar that you can take home as a souvenir! They even have a sink available in-store where you can wash it out!
The Buckeye is a shake that is exclusive to Columbus! This one is, as you guessed, a peanut butter and chocolate combo with two buckeyes attached! There’s even red marshmallow drizzle in support of OSU!
My kids loved the Unicorn and the Cookies N’ Worms! If the shakes are too much, you can order a specialty bowl in all the same themes that comes in a slightly smaller portion and price!
3. A Signature Roll at Simply Rolled Ice Cream
Location: 968 N. High St, Columbus, OH 43201
Ice cream is made to order at Simply Rolled in the Short North! Specialty Rolls are available to choose from or you can choose your own combination of ice cream and toppings!
It’s fun to watch this liquid ice cream be flash-frozen on a metal base and then rolled up with a scraper into delicate rolls. It’s definitely a unique dessert idea!
Simply Rolled also has seasonal flavors to choose from!
4. The Smallcakes Smash at Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery
Location: 1249 N. Hamilton Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230
When a cupcake just isn’t enough, you’ve got to go for the Smallcakes Smash! Cut that cupcake in half and smash some ice cream in the middle! Check out that “Viewing Area” in the middle of the cup where you can see your ice cream choice!
Smallcakes bakes 18 signature flavors of cupcakes each morning including rotating seasonal and special flavors like pumpkin spice, peppermint crunch and gingerbread. Coordinating homemade ice cream flavors are also available!
Located in Gahanna, Smallcakes will satisfy your craving for ice cream, cupcakes or, if you can’t decide, both of them combined!
5. Crazy Shakes at Sugar Rush
Location: 8114 E. Broad St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068
Sugar Rush in Reynoldsburg is the perfect place to achieve exactly what the name implies! Their Crazy Shakes come in two sizes: extreme and personal. The extreme size comes with a mashup cookie, full size cupcake, milkshake and additional toppings!
If that sounds like just a little bit much, go for the personal size which comes with a sugar cookie, standard cupcake, milkshake and a sweet garnish!
If milkshakes aren’t your thing, you can choose from their wide selection of cookies, cake pops, cupcakes and ice cream flavors! Sugar Rush also makes custom cakes for birthday parties and special occasions!
