6 Farms Where You Can Pick Your Own Apples Near Columbus, Ohio (2024)

Going apple picking, a classic fall activity in Central Ohio, is a sure sign of the changing seasons! Even if you live in the city of Columbus, a u-pick apple farm is less than an hour away!

6 Places to Pick Apples in Columbus and Central Ohio:

Our family loves to pick apples. We have traditionally picked our apples at Lynd Fruit Farm since we moved here over 15 years ago, but we have recently branched out (no pun intended) to try some other local apple farms! Do you have a favorite that’s not listed here? Leave it in the comments!

1. Branstool Orchards

• Features: Pick your own apples 6 days a week (closed on Mondays)! 40 Apple varieties are available beginning in July and running through late October! See our trip to Branstool Orchards here.

Apple picking is typically available Tuesday-Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-4 and you must enter the orchard no less than 1 hour before closing. The farm market is open from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. The website is updated regularly as to what varieties are available for picking!

2. Cherry Hawk Farm

• Features: Pick your own apples from July to November! Plus a sunflower field that blooms in late August and early September!

CherryHawk Farm keeps a handy updated calendar on their website telling you what month apple varieties are expected and whether or not they are currently available. Picking time is typically available Fridays through Sundays. Sunflowers are expected by mid-September in 2024!

3. Lawrence Orchards

Apple picking typically begins in late August. 2024 hours are: June 21st – August: Mondays – Saturdays    10:00 am-5:00 pm and September – October: Mondays – Saturdays 9:00- 6:00 pm.

A farm market is open from June through Christmas with farm-made products! Keep an eye on their Facebook page for the most up to date information including special Harvest Saturdays that feature live music!

4. Lynd Fruit Farm

• Features: Over a dozen apple varieties are available throughout the season!

Apple picking typically begins in mid-August. Call the u-pick hotline for updates: 740-927-1333 for a recorded message or check the calendar on their website. U-Pick hours are 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. There is also a large farm market with homemade goods, fruits, vegetables and more!

Lynd Fruit Farm is also home to a sunflower field (Smiles of Sunflowers)and a corn maze in the fall!

5. The Orchard and Company

• Features: U-Pick apples are available from August through October. Fall festival season begins in September and runs through October featuring fun activities for families!

Apple picking is available on weekends only. Check the calendar on their website for the most up-to-date information on what apple varieties are available and what time U-Pick is open because it does vary!

When you arrive at The Orchard & Co, there is one line to purchase the Farmyard Pass and to get your bags for apple picking. You can choose between a $25 peck (10# bag) or a $40 1/2 Bushel (20# bag) for apple picking.

There is also a cafe where you can purchase hot food, apple cider, bagged apples and fall decor items.

6. Legend Hills Orchard

• Features: U-Pick apples available from late June through October. Farm Market open year round.

This family-owned orchard is located in Utica and, in addition to apples, they grow other fruits and vegetables. The farm market is open year round.

They sell apples in the farm market and also offer the opportunity to pick your own apples throughout the growing season! Check their Pick Your Own webpage for the most up to date information on what apples are currently available to pick!

Legend Hills Orchard is 0pen every day for picking, while supplies last. They open at 9:00 AM Mon-Saturday and at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Make sure to arrive early enough to allow you to be finished picking by 5:00 PM.

When you arrive at the orchard and are ready to pick, they will give you a map with the apples labeled and you can drive to the location of the apples that are ready!
