1. Discovery Station in the Children’s Garden at Franklin Park Conservatory
Drop in daily in May to the Children’s Garden for an “April Showers Bring May Flowers” activity! Discovery Stations will change each week and feature gardening, plant science and seed exploration activities for kids! Time is 10:30 AM-1:00 PM daily.
2. Father’s Day Fun Kits with Seeds of Caring
Celebrate Father’s Day with a kid-friendly service project supporting loving dads in our community who are clients of The Open Shelter. Kids 2-12 will reflect on what they love about their own dads and explore how we are stronger when we work together. Then helping hands will pack Father’s Day Fun Kits and create messages of encouragement in this fun Anywhere Project! This project is available through June 18th!
3. Gahanna Summer Bash at Shepherd Christian School
This event takes place on Friday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Activities include community organizations, a bounce park, carnival games, pony rides, mini golf, a magician, balloon artist, face painter, contests, free cotton candy, cookies and more!
P.S. There will be a VOA thrift donation truck collecting donations and anyone who donates at this event will get a 25% off coupon for VOA Thrift stores in Ohio!
4. Campfire Corral at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park
Enjoy a campfire and desserts at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park on Friday at 6:00 PM.
5. Village Valuables in German Village
Shop yard sales throughout German Village on Saturday from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
6. Ohio Village Opening Day Carnival
Ohio Village officially opens for the summer with a Victorian Carnival! On Saturday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM enjoy 19th century carnival games, animals, and historical performers! This event is include in admission or with your Ohio History Connection membership.
7. Open Studio at Columbus Museum of Art
Open Studio takes place every Saturday from 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM and kids can drop in to work with art supplies and learn new techniques! May’s theme is Myths and Legends.
8. Delaware Arts Festival
The Delaware Arts Festival takes place in downtown Delaware and includes artists lining the streets with their creations, food trucks, concession stands, and live music. Festival hours are Saturday from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
9. Happy Birthday, Library! Puppet Show at Whetstone Branch of CML
Celebrate 150 years of Columbus Metropolitan Library with a puppet show and a special craft at the Whetstone Branch on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Visit the prairie at Whetstone Park afterwards!
10. Children’s Gardening Program at Slate Run Metro Park and Living Historical Farm
On Saturday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM kids can plant in the garden at Slate Run Living Historical Farm, plus help push the cultivator and take the “Vegetable Soup” story walk.
11. An Afternoon with Author Julie Dinges at Cover to Cover Books for Young Readers
On Saturday at 1:00 PM, local author Julie Dinges will be at Cover to Cover for a special event featuring her middle reader novel The Search for the Scepter.
12. Bugs For Kids at Blendon Woods Nature Center
Take a half mile walk to look for bugs at Blendon Woods Metro Park. Meet at the Nature Center at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
13. Butterfly Bash at Canal Winchester Branch of CML
Butterflies that were born in the library will be released on Saturday at 3:00 PM. There will also be butterfly-themed activities! This activity take place outside, weather permitting.
14. Spring Creeking at Blendon Woods Nature Center
Take a short hike to the creek to look for critters! Wear waterproof shoes and prepare to get wet! This event takes place at Blendon Woods at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
15. German Village 9 vs The Dayton Clodbusters at Schiller Park
Watch a vintage base ball game in Schiller Park in German Village at 4:00 PM on Sunday. This base ball game is played 1880’s style (when base ball was two words)! 😉
16. Music in the Garden: Chubby Slim Band at Olde Towne East Community Gardens
This free concert in the Community Garden features Chubby Slim Band and takes place on Sunday at 6:00 PM.
