12 Fun Things to Do in Hilliard, Ohio

Hilliard, Ohio is a family-friendly suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Located less than 20 minutes from downtown Columbus, this city is full of fun things to do for all ages!

Old Hilliard is the perfect place to walk around, pick up a treat and enjoy Hilliard’s Station Park! The city is also home to one of the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, a great library branch and some fun playgrounds for kids!

Read on to find out some of the best things to do in the Hilliard area!

1. Check Out a Book at the Hilliard Branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library

The Hilliard Branch of the CML is one of my favorites! There is a large Children’s Area on the first floor and a great Adult section with lots of seating and meeting rooms upstairs.

This library in Hilliard has a cafe with coffee, baked goods and other food options on the first floor and it has a decent sized seating area. It’s a great spot for meeting a friend, taking the kids for a play date or just some alone time with a good book!

2. Have a Cup of Yemeni Coffee at Qamaria Yemeni Coffee

The pistachio latte was amazing! I stuck with a theme and tried the pistachio milk cake. It was so light and fluffy, I couldn’t stop eating it!

If you’re looking for a unique place to have a coffee date or pick up a drink to go in Hilliard, you will not be disappointed with a stop at Qamaria! The employees are so friendly and everything we ate was delicious!

3. Explore and Play at Homestead Metro Park

Homestead Metro Park, located in Hilliard, Ohio, offers lots of activities for families! Spanning 44 acres, the park boasts a fishing pond, multiple playground areas, paved trails, and even a kid-friendly Nature Center.

The main playground covers a large area! It’s probably one of the largest of the Metro Park playgrounds in Columbus!

In 2022, Homestead Metro Park got an upgraded accessible playground! This playground has something for kids of all ability levels! They also added an Elevate Fitness Course for ages 5 and up that features an obstacle course that ends with a huge Victory Wall!

Homestead Metro Park also has additional exercise equipment, a covered bridge, and a a multi-use trail! You can read my full blog post about Homestead Metro Park for more pictures and information!

4. Enjoy a European Pastry at Créme de la Créme Bakery & Cafe

This European style bakery opened in 2023 and features a wide selection of delicious pastries to choose from! The owners of the cafe are Ukrainian and the style of the cafe brings us a taste of a Ukrainian bakery right in Hilliard!

Located off of Hilliard Rome Road, it’s easy to stop into the cafe before or after shopping! There is a lot of seating inside and an outdoor patio!

5. Drink Coffee and Play at Coffee Connections of Hilliard

Coffee Connections’ flagship shop is located on Main Street in Old Hilliard. Located in a house, there are two floors of seating inside plus another building in the back called the Annex. The Annex has couch seating and a free play area upstairs!

You can rent the Annex for a pretty affordable birthday party in Columbus! The area has an upstairs area for kids and a seating area downstairs.

Coffee Connections also has an outdoor patio for enjoying your coffee outside when the weather is nice! It’s a family-friendly coffee shop with lots of investment in the local community! This coffee shop in Hilliard partners with many local businesses to bring in baked goods, food items and goods for sale within the shop!

6. Go Bowling and More at Ten Pin Alley

Ten Pin Alley is lots of fun! It’s a great destination in Hilliard for family-friendly fun, a date night or a night out with friends!

This bowling alley also has a 2-story laser tag arena, a restaurant and bar, 2 bocce courts and an arcade! There is also a great patio for when the weather is nice, or at least tolerable, since it is heated in the winter!

The restaurant menu at Ten Pin Alley in Hilliard offers burgers, sandwiches, pizza and wings! They also offer a kid’s menu for kids 12 and under with offerings like pizza, mac & cheese, grilled cheese, chicken fingers and more!

My kids LOVE the arcade here! It’s also lots of fun to order food and snacks while bowling or enjoy a pizza on the patio!

7. Play on the Playground at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park

This newly remodeled park in Hilliard is super fun! There is a little bit of something for all ages including a face to face swing, a rope climbing structure and multiple slides!

There are accessible elements to this park as well including a large glider that is wheelchair accessible! The ground is rubber which is a really great feature in playgrounds, in my opinion! There is also a fence around this park which is hard to find!

8. Eat on the Patio at Center Street Market

We love to eat at Center Street Market! This food hall is anchored by Crooked Can Brewery and is home to 8+ vendors serving everything from meatballs to cheesecake to dumplings! There is a Coffee Connections location here as well as The Cheesecake Girl, Bakes by Lo, Meatball Mafia and more! There is a decent amount of indoor seating at this market in Old Hilliard, but the real gem here is the patio! The patio is huge and there is seating that extends into the closed-off road! Old Hilliard has a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) which allows you to take alcoholic drinks in pre-approved containers within the authorized district.

Center Street Market is next to Hilliard’s Station Park (which you can read about below) so it’s convenient for a meal and a trip to the (free) splash pad!

9. Splash in the Fountains at Hilliard’s Station Park

Hilliard’s Station Park is home to one of the great free splash pads in the Columbus area! The splash pad is open May through September and the area includes tables, amphitheater seating and public restrooms.

Hilliard’s Station Park is home to many of Hilliard’s special events including Celebration at the Station, a summer concert series that takes place weekly during the summer!

10. Explore the Early Television Museum

If you want your kids to appreciate the technology they have, take them to The Early Television Museum in Hilliard! I visited with my 12-year-old and he was amazed by the small screens (and the huge pieces of furniture that held them!)

This is an interesting place to visit! The museum houses TVs and video equipment from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. Each room has an audio tour available if you’d like more info! And don’t miss the back room with broadcasting equipment!

The museum is open on Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sundays from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. At time of writing, adults are $10 and kids are $5.

11. Shop for All Things LEGO at Bricks & Minifigs

Bricks & Minifigs (also known as BAM) opened in Hilliard in March of 2023! My kids live and breathe LEGO so we quick to visit!

BAM sells a combination of new and used LEGO sets. They will buy your unwanted LEGOs, too! They have a bulk LEGO section where you can buy random pieces by the container. There is a build-your-own minifigure table, too!

If you’re into custom LEGO creations, you can find items by BrickArms and Citizen Brick! My kids love to collect retired minifigures and they have a great selection of these as well! Lots to love here for LEGO fans!

12. Have a Drink on the Patio of HillGarten

HillGarten is a beer and wine garden in Hilliard with an incredible patio!

My husband and I stumbled upon this great spot when we were having dinner at another Hilliard restaurant. It was a beautiful night and we couldn’t help but wander across the street to have a glass of wine on the patio!

HillGarten features German specialties on their menu and they have daily drink specials. For instance, when we visited it was Wine Wednesday and glasses of wine were $5.
