How to Spend a Fall Day in Marysville, Ohio

Marysville, Ohio is around 35 minutes from downtown Columbus and offers a quaint downtown, apple picking and a super fun playground for kids!

Each fall we love to pick apples and we have started to branch out and try a new orchard near Columbus each year! This fall I picked CherryHawk Orchard for our annual apple picking adventure! We began the day with apple picking and then we spent some time exploring some more fun things to do in Marysville!

Hopefully these ideas will help you plan a day trip to Marysville, Ohio this fall! (Or even if it’s not apple picking season, most of these ideas will still apply!) And if it’s summer, Marysville is home to one of the biggest hot air balloon festivals in Ohio!

1. Apple Picking at CherryHawk Orchard

  • Address: 16220 Springdale Rd., Marysville, OH 43040
  • Website

CherryHawk Orchard is east of Uptown Marysville (and super close to Leeds Farm if you want to do both and expand your fall fun exponentially!) The orchard is generally open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM for apple picking.

It’s really nice to have a weekday and evening option for apple picking. In my experience, this is pretty rare! They recommend arriving by 6:00 PM in order to have enough time to pick.

CherryHawk Orchard is a no frills apple picking experience. It’s a beautiful orchard area with multiple varieties of apples to pick from. Make sure to check their website. They do a good job of keeping it updated as to what apple varieties are available for each coming weekend!

Simply park in the designated parking lot, proceed to the farm stand and purchase the container for the quantity and variety of apples you want to pick, and then pick your apples! The rows of apple trees are clearly marked and easy to find!

This is not an orchard that has a wide variety of other activities. (If that’s something you’re looking for, you might want to try Orchard and Company in nearby Plain City.) But if you’re looking for a peaceful apple picking experience, this is it!

2. Eating Gourmet Weiners at Mad Dogs

  • Address: 108 S Main St., Marysville, OH 43040

Gourmet hot dogs are the name of the game at Mad Dogs in Uptown Marysville! They have quite the selection of themed hot dogs! I got the Chi Town, their version of a Chicago style hot dog.

My kids got plain hot dogs. Because that’s how they roll. Kids meals are $5.99 and include fries.

Mad Dogs also has a full bar and beer on tap with seasonal offerings. The whole experience offers a fun vibe and is kid-friendly!

3. Shopping Uptown Marysville

If you have lunch at Mad Dogs in Uptown, take some time to walk around Uptown and explore the shops! One of my favorites was Gathered Goods, a collection of handmade goods and gifts featuring local makers!

I am pretty much obsessed with the earrings I bought at Gathered Goods and have currently worn them every day this week so far!

4. Playing at Aldersgate Park

  • Address: 400 Damascus Rd., Marysville, OH 43040

Kids will go crazy over the gravity rail at Aldersgate Park. We had never seen a gravity rail before until we visited Garrette Park in West Jefferson. A couple of readers let me know that there was one at Aldersgate Park so when we were in Marysville, we made sure to make a stop!

This park does not have a parking lot, so you will need to park along the street. There are two areas to the park: a larger playground area with the gravity rail and, down the path, a smaller play structure for younger kids.

In addition to the gravity rail, Aldersgate Park has something else I’ve never seen before! This wooden house (pictured below) built around a tree (a treehouse, perhaps) was also a lot of fun for my boys!

The house has several stories to climb – it made for the perfect game of tag! There is also a sandbox and other play features within the house.
